Meet the Martinez Family
Sunday, 7 December 2008Meet the Martinez family. Aren’t they just a pretty bunch? It may not look like it but this was a pretty cold day. Bernie made some terrific hamburgers and we sat and enjoyed the Bronco game (until the Raiders started killing them) so we decided to take advantage of “the magic hour” to get the shots done. Well, apparently the weather dropped about 20 degrees and we were rushing to get these done before we froze.
This is the second family portrait I’ve done so far and I’m hoping to get plenty more under my belt as time goes on. Right now, I’m working for free (minus prints) to gather experience so if you need any photos for the holidays, feel free to contact me.

How to make a photobook, the Scott Kelby Way
Monday, 1 December 2008OK,I don’t think I’ve ever made a photobook. Sure, I’ve thought about it a time or two but never acted on it. Why? Well, it’s just been a passing thought. I never thought a had anything to really make a book about. Well, today Mr Kelby has posted a video describing how he made his photobook using Apple’s iPhoto and, like everything else he does, he makes it look very easy (which it is). But he takes it a step further. Not only is the video tailored for iPhoto. He also made separate videos showing how to create them in Lightroom 2 and Adobe Photoshop CS4. I have to admit that I’ll be giving this another look. Perhaps I can make a small book of all my favorite photos and give them away as Christmas gifts. Hmmm.
Here’s the iPhoto video

D90 Review
Friday, 21 November 2008Think Camera has reviewed the Nikon D90.
As an upgrade from the D80, the Nikon D90 positively flies; adding a chunkier new sensor, improved speed and picture quality, plus a bundle of modes and features. From a usability point of view, the informative visual information and display features from the D60 have also been adopted – making for ultimate ease of use.

Scott Kelby’s Gonzo Holiday Gear Guide
Friday, 21 November 2008Scott Kelby has once again posed his annual gear guide/wish list for all things photography. Glad to see that my new Nikon D90 made the cut. Actually there are a few things I have that are on his list. They include the Wacom Bamboo (but I own the 4×6 Intuos3) and the BlackRapid R-Strap. Items that are on my wishlist include the NIKKOR 24–70 f/2.8G ED Lens and the Nikon SB-900 AF Speedlight. All in due time I guess.
Hey , on the subject of wishlist, Camera 47 have their 20 Photography Gifts Under $100 up as well so give it a quick looksee.

Getting the business
Friday, 21 November 2008
So I’m trying to get the photography business off the ground. Went downtown to register my trade name (MountainHi Photography). Signed on with Smugmug for a pro account and also got this WordPress thing moving. There is a lot to learn here and it’s going to be an adventure but we’ll see where this path leads.
After doing a shoot for a vehicle to be put up on Craigslist, I was heading home when I saw a great sunset. The sun was already behind the mountains but the light reflecting off the clouds was amazing. I stopped off at Milavec Lake and got this shot with my Nikon D90.
